FNE launches virtual candidate for legislative elections

The National Education Federation (FNE – Portugal) has just presented a virtual candidate for the presidential elections on March 10, 2024. Maria Esperança Portugal is her name and was created with the help of artificial intelligence. The launch of the candidacy took place on February 9, 2024, in Lisbon, and the objective is, according to Pedro Barreiros, Secretary General of FNE, “to get political parties to discuss quality Education in Portugal”.

“She is Maria because 80% of the teaching and non-teaching staff are women”, commented Pedro Barreiros. “And it is Esperança (Hope in Portuguese) because we need hope in our demands related to the rejuvenation of the profession. That’s why we created a young face.”

The proposals of the fictional candidate Maria Esperança Portugal coincide with the FNE’s proposals for a serious enhancement of Education and the working conditions of its professionals.
